Carone Harris named 2005 Marvin Delph Award winner.

I couldn't think of a better choice for this award, so kudos to David Grimes and the committee for this selection. If I had a vote, that's where I would've cast it. Carone broke national records, had her best individual season as a Sugar Bear, and led the team to its best season ever.
In taking the team to 28 wins, she averaged 22.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 5.5 steals, and 4.1 assists per game.
That was enough to earn her the highly prestigious Echo Athlete of the Year back in April, and now this. However, it wasn't enough to keep her on every All-American team — which is about as ludicrous as leaving Reggie Bush off your Heisman ballot or West Virginia out of your Top 25 ballot (yes Houston Nutt and Kevin Trainor, I mean you).
It also wasn't enough, along with everything else she did in her time at UCA, to gain the full respect of some of UCA's most ardent fans, especially one who has probably seen just about every game she ever played in. And that is both surprising and disappointing.
Retiring jerseys? Be sure to exclude Carone.

if we're going to talk about hanging Scottie's, might as well bring up Checola too. Put her up there in the rafters as well. Both her and Scottie already had their faces painted on the entrance/exit ways in the FC before, might as well hang their numbers...
If your going to put Checola in there, you also have to put Terri Conder-Johnson.IMHO, Scottie, Checola and Terri are the ONLY three numbers that really need retiring.

Seals, it goes without saying. The other one? I dunno. Maybe the guy who posted that has an affinity for hyphenated names. Seals-Horton and Conder-Johnson? Good to go. Plain' ol Harris? Nada.
Terri Conder had an outstanding career at UCA, no doubt about it. But to say she should have her jersey hanging from the Farris Center rafters and Carone shouldn't? I don't think I'd agree to that. Carone was every bit as good, if not better. Maybe I'm biased since I got to watch Carone play for years and never saw Conder suit up, but I have a hard time believing there was that much, if any, dropoff from Conder to Carone.
Both were key players on wildly successful teams, both were All-Americans several times over, both put up pretty good numbers. But, Carone-led teams went farther, and Carone's numbers were better. They are both outstanding, but I say if you're only retiring one, it'd probably be Seals. If you're going two, Seals and Carone. Conder would be third.
you know, I didnt inclue Conder-Johnson either probably for the same reasons you didn't, I never had the opportunity to see her play, or if I did, I don't remember it. I do remember seeing Checola play a few times though. I just totally forgot about Carone until that article and then reading this blog. I only got to watch her play a few times in person as well, since I moved off. Those 3 would all obviously be great candidates, and Scottie probably is the only male Iw ould retire at this time still, even though there have been a few good ones come through Conway over the years.
