6:02: It's true. Micaela Thomas is back in action for the Sugar Bears. She's not getting the start, but she is having a heck of a time over there on the bench. Her and Shamille catching up on old times.
6:05: Wyconda thomas, who has two of Delta's four points, now has its one injury.
6:06: And, she's up.
6:10: Two Renitas in this one. I'll have to check with the stats gurus to see how many times that's happened in school history. I'm guessing not many. 6-6 with 4:43 gone in the first half.
6:17: And Micaela checks in for the first time. She's holding Delta State's Courtney, last name Wilson.
6:19: And her first turnover. Good to get that one out of the way early.
6:23: Micaela's first bucket of her second senior season comes with 8:29 to go in the first half, making the score 18-14 Delta State.
6:26: And the crowd goes wild as Renita flips a behind-the-back pass to Caronica on a fastbreak. Caronica gets clobbered, but somehow its two Delta players who wind up mangling each other as they roll almost into the stands. Caronica hits both free throws.
6:30: I just realized three of my last four entries began with "and". I need to learn more words. Caronica makes two more FTs.
6:33: Call SportsStar Management at 501-978-1187 for all your sponsorship needs. Get in the game.
6:37: Caronica converts the 3-pt. play to pull the Sugar Bears within a single point. Caronica has 13 points, everybody else has 10. Sugar Bears blistering the nets at this point, shooting 29.2 percent. Delta State is at 54.2
6:40: Halftime. Entertainment is Neal McCoy. Okay, I'm kidding. Neal McCoy is the dude out here representing the GSC Tournament as he passes out some full tournament passes. Our first winner is Sharon Jackson, wife of UCA Vice President of Communications Tommy Jackson who happens to be a Cubs fan and an outstanding man. Of course, those two things go hand in hand.
6:58: I guess I can't count, because Caronica just now has 13 after two free throws, and had 11 on the official stats at the half.
7:00: Alicia Kellogg is credited with two points. Either I fell asleep or something is off. So Caronica has either 15 or 17 points.
7:05: If Micaela's out of game shape, you can't tell, as she just ran out in front of everybody for a layup.
7:12: Chance of an official dying in the next 30 seconds: About 72 percent. The home crowd, and team, is not one bit pleased with the charge just called on Caronica.
7:14: I don't know what the single-season steal record is at UCA for a girl 6' or taller, but I like Brittany Greer's chances.
7:16: Greer with a blocked shot after Lawanda Stewart fell for the band's fake "3 ... 2 ... 1..." chant while there's still five on the shot clock.
7:22: Well, there's 5:04 left and UCA is up two. The way this season's been going, it's not unreasonable to expect this one to come down to a last shot. For storyline purposes, I'm rooting for Micaela to get the last shot. And make it, of course.
7:24: Brittany Greer doing her best to ruin hopes of the last-second shot. Her free throws put UCA up four, and she has eight of the Sugar Bears' last 10 points.
7:27: DSU coach Sandra Rushing is called for a technical foul, and her wig was issued a warning.
7:29: Rushing calls timeout to draw up a play and apply more hairspray.
7:34: 1:00 to play, UCA up 1.
7:35: 26.6 left, foul on Victoria Richards, Stewart to the line for a pair. She's 2-2 on her FTs so far tonight.
Now 4 of 4. And there's a UCA turnover. Delta has the ball and the lead with 23.8 to play.
7:39: 18.9, DSU timeout. UCA with Caronica, Piggee, 3LW, Victoria and Greer in. Foul with 16.9 left, sending Amber Gean to the line. Gean hasn't shot a FT tonight ... now she has, and she's 0-1. 1-2.
7:41: @#$!*&@##%@#$#@!#$
7:45: Sugar Bears take their 47th consecutive timeout. Still down four with 7.6 left.
7:47: Sugar Bears are praying on the court, Delta State is dancing about six feet from them.
10:37: Alright! Let's hear it for Barrett Baber and Chris Cash.
10:46: Just realized I never got around to letting folks know the Sugar Bears lost thanks to a half dozen turnovers in the game's final minute. It was somewhat reminiscent of the Henderson game, only worse. I think the Sugar Bears should petition the GSC to just play everything on the road from here on out.
Goff must have gone "Office Space" on his laptop.
Posted by: Mandingo | January 19, 2006 08:28 PMgreat running diary. I enjoy these, esp. for games like this when I wasn't able to get back in time to hear it live.

Mandingo, I didn't go "Office Space" on my laptop. I went "barf" on my laptop, and then proceeded to slit my wrist with a stat sheet.
Bear Fan: Thanks. I know sometimes people have issues with the streaming audio, so I guess it's a serviceable alternative to that. And in eight years it'll be fun for the three people who care to look back and see that at 8:14 p.m. on February 17th, Mariesha Piggee had somebody in a headlock.
I wish I could do one every game, but not every arena in the Gulf South blesses us with wireless internet capabilities. I could tote around some Cat-5 cable, but I'd need about 600 yards at a lot of the places since they might have one high-speed port in the entire building and the next closest one is either at somebody's house or the local high school.
