6:02: Alright folks, go time here at the Farris Center as the Sugar Bears and Cotton Blossoms get set to do battle.
6:03: UAM is known for jacking the 3, and they've already let one fly. Also, LaFawnduh has 1 rebound for the Cotton Blossoms. Caronica Randle to the line for the first of 48 free throws tonight.
6:10: Shootout going on here, as there have been three FGs made in 4:30 of action. Nevermind, LaFawnduh just scored again. 8-4 UAM. And, Caronica shooting more FTs. Both good. 8-6 UAM.
6:12: LaFawnduh Young unstoppable here in the beginning, with 6 points and 3 rebounds.
6:17: Renita Dobbins dipping into the bag of tricks early tonight, scooping a layup up under the defenders arm as she gets hammered, and walks it up over the side of the rim and in for a couple points.
6:19: Teoka Wilkerson in the game for UAM. She's listed at 5-foot-3, and if that's the case, I'm looking down at Yao Ming. This girl is about 4-8 and approximately 38 oz. We also have an Alicia Kellogg sighting for UCA, totally throwing a wrench in UAM's scouting report.
6:22: All UCA at this point, as the Sugar Bears are on a 10-2 run over the last 1:32. Renita has six points, an assist, and a steal or two in that span.
6:24: Your Sugar Bears lineup ... Dobbins, Kellogg, Sample, Oden, Greer. Might be a first. Greer is throwing shots around everywhere. Oden just scored, 24-13 UCA.
6:28: Sugar Bears run up to 14-2, UAM has hit one field goal in the last 7:03.
6:30: UAM breaks the skid by going back down low to LaFawnduh. And I would like to take a moment to request the officials use the appropriate hand signals. One ref just called a charge on Piggee on what appeared to be an and-one, but no sir and no basket. The home crowd all cheered thinking he had called the defensive foul, especially since he was waiting on the ball to either fall in or out as it bounced on the rim. Instead, he was just signaling for a charge. Odd.
6:33: Quick quiz ... who has more points tonight - Allyson Sample, Mariesha Piggee, Alicia Kellogg, Victoria Richards, or Brittany Greer? You guessed it – Alicia Kellogg, with 4.
6:37: Same official, same bad execution on the charge call.
6:38: He's got the walk call down, though.
6:41: Halftime. Neither team has hit a 3, and neither team is shooting 40 percent. For once, UCA is dominating the glass.
6:51: As far as halftime entertainment goes, does it get any more enthralling than the Ellen Smith jumprope kids? I think next year they should bring out the advanced team, who uses rope laced with razor wire, just to increase the drama and excitement.
6:58: LaFawnduh strikes early in the second half, taking only 12 seconds to score.
7:00: The game's first successful 3-point bucket by UAM's Katrina Dean, who hails from Conway. It's also her first bucket of the night. Showing the hometown team what they missed out on.
7:06: You just can't stop LaFawnduh. 15 points, 8 boards, and going to the line for a chance at a couple more. Got 'em both. 17 and 8.
7:14: 53-43 UCA with 9:48 to go. Sugar Bears led by 15, but an 8-3 spurt by the Cotton Blossoms has gotten it back to 10. Delta State - 43, CBU - 32 ... there's a final from around the GSC in what must've been an exciting affair.
7:20: Piggee scores, putting UCA up 61-43, and also makes that the 11th Sugar Bear to get on the board tonight. Shamille Taylor and Tiffany Moore, who haven't gotten in yet, are the only two not to score.
7:23: For those scoring at home, that's a 14-0 Sugar Bear run as the lead is extended to 24. As I type that, UAM cans a pair of FTs to make it 67-45.
7:27: Shamille Taylor on the board after making two free throws. That leaves Tiffany Moore as the only scoreless Sugar Bear this evening.
7:31: Seven rebounds for Allica Kellogg. Her career high is 10 against Arkansas Baptist, so topping that might be tough since there's just a minute left. She also has UCA's last three points, giving her 7 points and now she has 8 boards.
7:33: 25 seconds left, get Moore the ball! Down to 20 ... 17 ... crap, it ain't gonna happen. 10 ... .5, 2 ... and it's over. UCA wins 76-57.
