5:34: Early start here this evening. It appears we're actually using a women's ball tonight, and Henderson has not been awarded any points for dead-ball buckets. All those layups in warmups surprisingly did not get added to their total. Still yet, the Sugar Bears might be down 38 in the next six seconds if they pick up where they left off Monday.

5:38: Oden hits a 3 to put UCA up 10-4 early. Several turnovers in the early going. And surprisingly Ashley Perry isn't scowling everywhere yet.

5:43: Shannon Oden is a 3-point machine. I wonder if the bus driver from Evansville is listening in. "I don't get having your biggest girl out on the perimeter." Well, there you have it.

5:45: Renita dribbles off a foot, HSU's Shondra Bush gets the layup and the foul, and hits the FT to make it 13-12. And Renita is now whislted for the walk.

5:47: My personal statistician just assured me that, despite two turnovers in about 14 seconds, Renita Dobbins has no chance at the career turnover record – currently held by Carone Harris.

5:48: "Just because she's 3'2" doesn't mean she don't carry the ball" -- Henderson fan on Renita Dobbins. Caronica has 2 fouls and the score is tied at 15.

5:51: Sugar Bears commit their 47th turnover of the half. Shondra Bush with a 3 as Henderson moves their run to 9-0 to take a 21-15 lead with 11:06 in the first half.
5:54: And that's 12 consecutive turnovers for the two teams.

5:55: Bush breaks the drought with yet another 3. 25-17 Henderson.

5:58: Micaela gets on the board and snaps the skid for UCA. 27-19 Henderson.

6:01: Somewhere along the way I missed the fact Caronica picked up her 3rd foul. Another thing I've never understood is the theory that yelling a player's name two or three times is an effective means of heckling. Even throwing a token "you suck" at the end is better than just yelling "hey Micaela! Micaela! Micaela!"

6:04: That heckling obviously isn't working as Micaela has six of UCA's last eight points. Another 3 for Henderson, up 33-25 with 3:25 left in the half. Also, my laptop almost got destroyed by the commemorative 500th crappy pass of the first half.

6:07: Stat of the Night: 93 percent of all passes this half have resulted in turnovers.

6:08: Henderson fans commentary:

6:11: Halftime. Victoria misses some last tenth-of-a-second miracle fling as she picked the ball up off the court. 33-32 Henderson lead with the Sugar Bears closing with a 7-0 run on an Oden jumper, a Piggee layup, and an Allicia Kellogg 3.

In other news, I don't believe I'm going to have to commit any hate crimes at the press table this evening. Everybody here seems to be in control and reasonable. I did have 3/4 of a pot of coffee starting at about 12:30 last night so I'm still wired and anything could happen.

The official halftime entertainment of Arkadelphia is knockout. They played it at OBU last week, and tonight at the Duke Wells Center, there's a male game on one end and a female on the other. Separate but equal alive and well.

Henderson's band really likes jazz. UCA's might play the SportsCenter theme entirely too often, but they don't roll out the jazz. I think I actually like the jazz better, but I'm not sure if it's really ballgame appropriate. At the Joshua S. Goff Civic Center, we'd just have senior citizen karaoke.

6:30: Ugly Socks girl gets her second block of the season. I guess they can't tell those aren't socks. Either that or "Williams, you have ugly neoprene sleeves" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

6:32: First half, Caronica had UCA's first five points. So far this half, she's outdoing herself with the Sugar Bears' first seven.

6:36: 7-0 run by HSU as they take a 46-39 lead with 14:39 left in the game. UCA timeout.

6:38: Caronica, in scoring her 9th consecutive point for UCA this half, moved to 8th all time at UCA passing Sandra Reed and moving within 32 points of Bekka Middleton.

6:40: Micaela makes two FTs for UCA's first Randleless points this half.

Also ... "You don't have to call it just because someone fouled, REF!" -- Irate Henderson Fan.
Two more FTs for Micaela, 48-47 HSU. Lady Reddies with 9 fouls already, with more than 12 minutes left to go. Look for a lot of drives the rest of the way from the Sugar Bears.

6:42: Henderson misses another layup, and a great hustle play by Shamille Taylor to corral the ball while getting mauled, and get the timeout as she's flying around out of bounds.

6:46: And there's your 10th team foul on Henderson State with 11:03 to play. If the Sugar Bears want to stay in this, they might ought to hit some of these free throws. And Caronica gets them both.

6:48: Henderson isn't missing. 61-53 Lady Reddies with 9:21 left. This game has had about three dozen momentum shifts but we're on a down spell for UCA. The media timeout just wrapped up, so we'll see if that slowed Henderson down any whatsoever.

6:55: 7:06 left, Caronica with four fouls. Henderson up nine. Henderson ball. I wouldn't bet against a Bush 3 coming out of this timeout. Sugar Bears come out of the timeout trying to play with 6. Okay I was wrong ... Bush layup. HSU by 11.

7:00: 13-point Lady Reddie lead. Last time the Sugar Bears lost 3 in a row in conference was 1992 when they closed the season out with losses to UAM, Harding, and Henderson. Seals averaged 29 points per game in those three games, so you can't blame it on her.

7:03: If Henderson could make layups, the score would be 98-60.

7:06: Henderson with just 4 second-half turnovers. They're shooting 50 percent from 3-pt. range tonight, hitting 10-20. Caldwell instructing his girls to milk clock and shorten up the game. Sugar Bears need 15 straight in a span of 2:43.

7:13: Keisha Blackwell blows an open layup ... and by open I mean she was the only player past halfcourt, and it appears she has ravaged her ankle in the process. UCA gets a layup to cut it to eight. Now HSU throws it out of bounds and UCA inbounds under Lady Reddies' goal. Sugar Bears cut it to six on two Richards' FTs.
