Quick thought on the Olympics

I am by no means a fan of the Winter Olympics. I just don't like any of the sports and haven't watched more than maybe 20 minutes of coverage.

I did fall for some curling the other day. Which evidently is a enthralling sport, because Assistant Sports Editor Scott Stirling fell under the spell of curling too. See this week's print editon for more on that.

Any way, the point of this post isn't to talk about curling or why I don't like the Olympics. I'm actually going to defend them for a minute.

I hear on all these sports talk shows and stuff that the reason no one in America watches or cares about the Winter Games is that the US sucks at the sports.

While the US isn't as dominate in the winter as it is in the summer, I'm staring at the Medal Tracker on ESPN.com right now and the US is second with 18 total medals and 7 golds. Norway is third with 18 medals, but only 2 golds.

Austria has 8 golds, but its in fourth place because of a lack of silvers and bronzes.

But, anyways, the US has the second most medals - hardly sucking.

So the American's don't suck at Winter sports. People just don't like it for a number of other reasons, some of which I outlined in last week's print edition.

Either way, I'm in a good situation, with Germany in first place (21 medals, 9 golds), at least one of my teams is No. 1.

You can't claim Germany and USA both. You're like A-Rod trying to be both Dominican and American. Go put on purple lipstick.
